Hannah Rapp: A Life That Had So Much More To Give

Hannah Rapp had everything to live for. But her life was taken away from her on Saturday morning. Rapp was hit by a car and was killed while riding her bicycle in Brazos County, Texas. 31-year-old Charles Medina was arrested and charged with her manslaughter.

Rapp had recently challenged Tiara Brown for her WBC world featherweight title. The 26-year-old had only nine fights behind her, but despite her relative inexperience, Rapp lasted the distance, and Brown was made to work incredibly hard for her victory. The performance gave hope that Rapp, with a little more experience, could one day become a world champion herself. Sadly, we will never know just how far her story could have gone.

A former track athlete, Rapp found boxing at a difficult time in her life. She was diagnosed with an eating disorder in 2020 and was admitted for residential treatment. Just a month after being discharged, Rapp started her boxing journey and had her first fight in April 2022. But a lack of available opponents restricted her amateur career to just eight fights, and Rapp turned professional in April 2024, with a first-round stoppage victory over Kavarcia Polk. In ten professional fights, Rapp had eight wins, one draw, and just that one defeat on her resume.

I interviewed Rapp last month, just a week after that brave effort against Brown in Florida. I found her inspiring in so many ways. Living proof that you can overcome adversity. Her boxing career, and her life itself, had so much more to give. Tragic doesn’t even begin to cover the circumstances surrounding her death. A life taken far too soon.
