Stevie Morgan: World Title Opportunity Imminent

Stephanie Han and Holly Holm will do it all again on May 30th in El Paso, Texas. A rematch that will set the tone for the future of the lightweight division. The unbeaten Han will yet again defend her WBA world lightweight title against the legendary Holm. Han beat Holm on a technical decision in January. The somewhat premature ending after seven rounds due to an accidental head clash shouldn’t disguise the fact that Han was well on her way to retaining her WBA bauble.

The American Stevie Morgan is the mandatory challenger to Han and stepped aside to allow the rematch to happen. Morgan is a more than an interested spectator for the second fight. “I believe Han wins again,” Morgan told FightPost.

I am of the understanding that the winner of the second fight between Han and Holm has 150 days to fight Morgan. Like Morgan, I think Han will repeat her previous victory over Holm, and this time it will probably be more definitive.

Stevie Morgan is already thinking of the possibility of fighting Han. “Her style for us is a little more challenging because of the way she controls distance and her counter punching style,” Morgan told me. “But we’ve been training her for a while now. It’s been a little over a year since she got the belt at our weight class, and I believe with the game plan that we have, and my aggressiveness will neutralise a lot of the good stuff that she does.”

Morgan last fought in January, and she is currently contemplating getting a fight in before her world title opportunity later this year. The 37-year-old likes to stay active, and a possible WBA interim fight could be in the offering before facing either Stephanie Han or Holly Holm before the end of the year.
