The UFC Returns To Las Vegas: Woodley vs Burns Preview

By Dan McConnell

The UFC bring their world famous octagon back home to Las Vegas, and will use their purposely built UFC Apex venue this Saturday night.

With recent trips to Brazil and Florida, President Dana White made it his mission to return to the fighting capital of the world even during this Coronavirus pandemic.

A welterweight bout between former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley (19-4-1) and rising contender Gilbert Burns (18-3) will serve as our main event of the night!

Woodley lost his title last time out to Kamaru Usman at UFC235 in March of 2019, and will look to show the world why he is still one of the best fighters in the world.

‘The Chosen One’ Woodley’s opponent will be staring across the cage from him, will be Brazil’s Gilbert Burns who comes into this one on a 5-fight win streak.

Burns defeated grappling wizard Demian Maia in his last bout, that was just three months ago on the first card during this global pandemic in Brazil on March the 14th.

The 33-year old welterweight boasts wins over Maia, Gunnar Nelson, Alexey Kunchenko, Mike Davis and Olivier Aubin-Mercier and will look to continue his unbeaten run against the heavily-experienced former champion in Woodley.

Will Woodley’s experience and championship mentality prevail over the up and coming Brazilian-Burns?

This event also includes fighters that were pulled from other events previously cancelled by the UFC, as well as other top matchups.

In the co-main a heavyweight bout between former WSOF 205-pound champion Blagoy Ivanov (18-3) and Augusto Sakai (14-1-1) will throw down.

A women’s strawweight bout between former Jiu-Jitsu world champion Mackenzie Dern (7-1) and Carolina’s own Hannah Cifers (10-4) will also take place on the main-card. Dern recently returned to competition due to the birth of her daughter Moa.

Other interesting fights to watch include Katlyn Chookagian, who lost last time out to women’s flyweight champ Valentina Shevchenko. She will face her sister Antonina in a battle of redemption.

Also former men’s flyweight title contender Tim Elliott, who lost to former undisputed champ Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson, will hope to get back to winning ways over Brandon Royval.

No doubt this card could be one that surprise, surpasses and of course shocks many expectations for fight fans around the world!
