The number-one ranked contender will no longer clash with arch-rival, Khabib Nurmagomedov on April 18th. in the main event of UFC 248 – with Khabib, currently stranded in Dagestan, withdrawing from the clash due to travel restrictions surrounding the novel coronavirus pandemic. Nurmagomedov confirmed on Instagram on Wednesday, that he would have to “cancel” his clash with Ferguson for the undisputed lightweight championship – with the seemingly cursed pairing shelved for an incredible fifth time.

Taking to his official Instagram this evening, Ferguson released a snippet of his ESPN Sportscentre interview with Ariel Helwani – where he aimed barbs at both Nurmagomedov, and former lightweight and featherweight gold holder, Conor McGregor.

“Khabib (Nurmagomedov), I believe that he already knew he wasn’t going to fight,” Ferguson explained. “We scared him. He had the opportunity to come back from Abu Dhabi. He has the power to take a plane and come back. This is the second time we punked him out. I’ve been doing the exact same thing for eight years. To and from work, going in there and busting my ass, making sure I’m taking care of business.”

“I’m a hitman. Khabib and Conor (McGregor) are running around with their tails between their legs like a f**king dog. I run with the dog’s, man, and these guys ain’t dogs. They’re a bunch of pussies. Khabib’s a bitch. I told him I was gonna mop the f**king floor with his hat, the dude jammed out.”

Ferguson, who has been offered a short-notice meeting with fellow top-five contender, Justin Gaethje for UFC 249, has questioned the reasoning as to why he should accept the bout agreement to face the former WSOF lightweight champion.

“Whether or not it’s Khabib. Whether or not it’s Conor. I’m all for whooping somebody’s ass,” Ferguson told. “I already beat the top-five round-robin, and now they want me to reset and give me another top five [contender]? I don’t f**king think so. I’m the champion already.”

For Ferguson, it’s a questionable decision to save the seemingly doomed UFC 249 card – particularly with championship gold not up for spoils. The 10th. Planet Jiu-Jitsu black belt is the owner of an incredible twelve fight win-streak, recently forcing doctor stoppages against former WEC and UFC 155-pound best, Anthony Pettis, and veteran striker, ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.
