Eager Egbunike Looks to Light up London
Daniel Egbunike has his engine primed for a surge to glory in Saturday’s maiden title fight.
‘Danny Darko’ (5-0, 3 KOs) outgunned Martin McDonagh in a Southern Area super-lightweight title final eliminator back in June and now tackles undefeated Billy Allington on the SOLD OUT #MTKFightNight at York Hall; live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank and on iFL worldwide.
With a first 10-round victory comfortably under his belt, Londoner Egbunike is eager to show further gears and seize his first crown as a professional.
Egbunike said: “I blew through the 10 rounds last time. I felt really good at the end of it and this time, I’m even healthier and even fitter.
“There were mistakes made last time round and I knew even at the time that I was doing some things wrong even though I was winning.
“It all stands me in good stead because the next time I come across a back-foot fighter, it’ll go down a bit quicker. I’ll be able to close them off a bit faster and hopefully get the stoppage.
“I’m hopeful of getting a good response for becoming Southern Area champion inside only six fights. I’ve said that was what I’d do and hopefully there’ll be some more good news after this fight.”
Joining Egbunike vs. Allington on a jam-packed show is a clash between two world-ranked welterweights in Michael McKinson vs. Luis Alberto Veron, a WBC final eliminator between Chantelle Cameron and Anahi Ester Sanchez, a WBO European lightweight title in Liam Walsh and Maxi Hughes, Danny Dignum and Conrad Cummings colliding for the WBO European middleweight belt and more.
