UFC Rochester: By The Numbers
By Ivan Surlina
What a night it was in Rochester, New York! Former lightweight title holder Rafael Dos Anjos took on former lightweight title challenger Kevin lee. However, RDA would spoil Lee’s bump up to 170 lbs. as he finished the American via arm triangle submission in the fourth round. Dos Anjos got the victory he desperately needed, while Lee has now lost three of his last four bouts. I believe Lee can have success at welterweight, but I just don’t think he is a title challenger in a weight class where many fighters cut down from 200+ lbs.
Anyway, you’ve seen the recaps, you’ve the seen reviews, but it is now time to take a closer look at the numbers for UFC Rochester.
0: Four fighters came into Saturday night with zeros in the loss column, but only two left with the zeros still there. Michael Trizano and Trevin Giles both suffered their first professional loss, while Felicia Spencer and Aspen Ladd both remain perfect in their professional mixed martial arts careers.
2-3: Debuting fighters went 2-3 overall on Saturday night. Charles Jourdain, Austin Hubbard, and Derrick Krantz all lost their UFC debut. Meanwhile, Felicia Spencer and Michel Pereira both did enough to secure victories by finishing their opponents inside the distance.
9: There were a total of nine finishes on this card, the most finishes on any one card in 2019. Out of thirteen total fights, only four went to the judges’ scorecards. Four fights ended in submission, while the other five were finished by strikes.
107: It only took UFC newcomer Michel Pereira a mere 107 seconds to put away veteran Danny Roberts. Pereira finished Roberts by KO (flying knee and punch).
6:32: Total control time for Aspen Ladd. Ladd secured just over six and a half minutes of control time vs fellow bantamweight Sijara Eubanks. In what was honored as “Fight of the Night”, Ladd would go on to win via unanimous decision, making her claim as a 135 lb. contender that much more serious.
6: Total number of knockdowns on the card for UFC on ESPN+ 10.
100: Desmond Green went 100% on his takedown attempts versus Canadian Charles Jourdain, securing four takedowns en route to a unanimous decision victory in his hometown of Rochester, NY.
8,132: The attendance for UFC Fight Night 152 at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, New York.
$643,000: The live gate for Saturday night’s fight festivities.
$50,000: 50k USD was awarded to both Aspen Ladd and Sijara Eubanks for their fight of the night efforts. Also, both Grant Dawson and Michel Pereira were cut checks for their spectacular performances, both finishing their opponent.
10: The total amount of takedowns landed in the main event. Although in what would be a losing effort, Kevin Lee landed six takedowns to RDA’s four. However, Dos Anjos would go on to win by submission (arm triangle) in round four.
95: Speaking of the main event, both fighters landed a combined 95 significant strikes in the bout, with Dos Anjos edging out Lee 60-35.
5: Both Vicente Luque and Charles Oliveira are now riding five fight winning streaks. The pair of Brazilians are both ranked #15 in their respective divisions, with their sights surely set on a matchup with someone in the top 10.
15: Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira has now won fifteen fights in the UFC, amassing eight “Performance of the Night” bonuses along the way, the most in company history
