The Importance of Conor McGregor
While the numbers may vary depending where you look, but the biggest PPV buy rates in UFC history below, tells us all we need to know why Conor McGregor is so important to the UFC.
While the UFC have come a long way since the dark times, true mainstream appeal is still very much a work in progress. All the PPV cards on the list have 3 specific reasons why they drew the numbers they did. Either Brock Lesnar, Ronda Rousey or McGregor were on the card, the UFC badly needs another true crossover star.
Rousey is almost certainly gone forever, Lesnar, subject to getting through the USADA testing pool, will return, but it will be a short term return, one or two fights at best.
So that leaves McGregor to stem the tide of the largely dwindling PPV numbers since he last graced the Octagon nearly two years ago at UFC 205.
Whatever you think of McGregor he is the one true superstar in the sport today, his importance to the UFC can not be over stated. When McGregor fights people take the bait and click.
Until the UFC find the next big thing, they will be hoping that McGregor completes his recently signed 6 fight deal.
