Skye Falzon: “I’m not here just to take part in Amanda’s history. I’m here to try to write my own.”

It is the opportunity of a lifetime for Skye Falzon. The 38-year-old Australian will be the last-ever opponent in the trailblazing career of Amanda Serrano.

The legendary Puerto Rican will defend her unified WBO and WBA featherweight world titles against Falzon, who is ranked number four by the WBA. Serrano and Falzon will clash on January 9th in Puerto Rico over twelve three-minute rounds.

“Look, to be honest, I never thought that I’d get a call-up to fight Amanda Serrano,” Falzon said at this week’s press conference. “I watch her. I’m a fan of hers. She is the best, and that’s just the way it is. To get a call-up to fight her was a dream come true. I actually cried about it. It’s been amazing. The opportunity is something I’m going to grab hold of, and I just can’t wait.

Falzon is not going to Puerto Rico just for the payday. “I’m not here just to take part in Amanda’s history. I’m here to try to write my own. I wouldn’t be a fighter if I didn’t believe I could win.”

“I’m just here to win,” Falzon added. “If a knockout comes, it comes. But at the end of the day, winning is the most important thing for me to do.”

After turning professional in 2021 with a six-round points decision over Sarah Watt, Falzon lost her next two fights. But she hasn’t lost since. That four-year unbeaten streak has been rewarded with the golden ticket of being the final opponent Amanda Serrano will ever face inside a boxing ring. Falzon is seemingly intent on spoiling the retirement party.
