Ringside Report: Shannon Ryan Blows Away Emma Dolan In 46 Seconds
Emma Dolan (9-2) badly needed a good start in her rematch with Shannon Ryan (12-1) on Saturday night at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham. In truth, it couldn’t have gone any worse for her.
Ryan got her revenge in a matter of seconds. Another brutally powerful performance, and her second quick stoppage victory in a row.
Dolan should have boxed from the outset, easing her way into the fight at distance, but she elected to trade power punches with Ryan. There was only ever going to be one winner in that kind of fight. In just 46 seconds, Ryan got her revenge.
After a brief exchange of punches one big right hand dropped Dolan. It was a heavy knockdown. In truth, a fight ending one. Dolan bravely got up, but when she was quickly floored again. Dolan again got to her feet, but Carl Greaves in the Dolan corner threw the towel in. It was the correct call.
It was a disastrous night for Dolan. The tactics seemed strange. The pre-fight game plan probably ignored. Ryan always starts fast. Dolan didn’t need to fight fire with fire. A gamble that never looked like paying off.
It was eerily similar to the night when Dolan got stopped in three rounds by Irma Garcia in her world title shot in April. Lessons needed to be learned. Dolan, again paid a heavy price.
Ryan won’t care. Following on from her quick victory over Nicola Hopewell earlier this year, the 29-year-old was even more impressive against Dolan. I favoured Ryan, but not like this. After losing on points to Dolan two years ago, Ryan now has her peace.
The now triple-champion, who added the British super-flyweight title to her Commonwealth and IBF Intercontinental titles, should hopefully, land a world title opportunity. Ranked number one by the IBF and WBO, Ryan is in the form of her life. She will take some stopping.
