Rhiannon Dixon Returns In Liverpool On November 21st

The former WBO world lightweight champion Rhiannon Dixon will end a two-year extended ring hiatus on November 21st in Liverpool. It’s a ‘comeback’ that Dixon hopes will end with her being crowned a two-division world champion.

Dixon will take the first tentative steps back to world title contention next month at the Boxpark in Liverpool. The aim for the Warrington fighter is to campaign at super-featherweight. The return fight will be at catchweight, somewhere between 130 and 135 as she eases herself back after being away for 25 months.

“I am coming back to win world titles,” Dixon told me in August. “I want to unify and go undisputed. That is the dream of everyone to stand in the ring with all the belts.”

Dixon will not only have her first fight since losing her WBO title to Terri Harper in September 2024, but it will also be her debut outing with her new trainer Stephen Smith. It’s a working relationship that is still in its embryonic stages, but Dixon is happy with her progress so far under Smith. “I can’t even remember when I first met him, but I’ve known him for ages,” Dixon says of her new trainer. “I’m enjoying working with Stephen.”

The 31-year-old, despite that long absence, still has time on her side. The move to super-featherweight should serve her well. And the timing could quite easily work strongly in her favour. Alycia Baumgardner, who holds the WBA, IBF and WBO world super-featherweight titles, challenges Elif Nur Turhan for her IBF world lightweight title next month, and if Baumgardner defeats Turhan, those 130-pound titles will likely splinter and become vacant. With a victory next month, Dixon could be well placed to challenge for any vacant world super-featherweight titles at some point in 2027.
