Gabriela Fundora vs. Jasmina Zapotoczna Clash For The Undisputed Flyweight Championship In November
Gabriela Fundora needed a fresh challenge. Jasmina Zapotoczna just needed a fight. They now both have what they need.
Fundora (18-0), the undefeated and undisputed flyweight champion of the world, will face Zapotoczna (10-1), the European champion, on November 20th at the Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, California, live on DAZN.
The 24-year-old American is undefeated in eighteen fights, is coming off four consecutive stoppage victories, and has practically cleaned out her division. But Zapotoczna represents a significant step up from the recent competition that Fundora has faced in her last couple of fights. Wins over Alexas Kubicki and Viviana Ruiz haven’t really threatened that unblemished resume. Zapotoczna could be a totally different proposition.
The European champion has gone under the radar somewhat, and has struggled to get fights of late. Zapotoczna hasn’t fought since a successful defence of her European title last November against Justine Lallemand in France. Zapotoczna might be unknown to the American audience, but has excellent wins over Maiseyrose Courtney and Chloe Watson. That victory over Watson at the Royal Albert Hall in March of last year earned Zapotoczna the European title. Zapotoczna has a style that could pose Fundora problems. It is a fight that has been on her radar for some time.
“I would love to challenge myself against Gabriela Fundora, Zapotoczna told me late last year. “Obviously, she is a top fighter and undisputed. It would be a massive challenge for me, but I would love to check my skills against hers.”
Fundora will start as a significant betting favourite to retain both her undefeated record and that undisputed status. But Zapotoczna could be a live underdog in a fight that could be a lot closer than the odds might suggest.
