Shona Whitwell & Amy Andrew Set For December At The York Hall

In a clash of unbeaten fighters, Shona Whitwell and Amy Andrew will clash for the vacant WBO European featherweight title at the York Hall in London on a Top Tier card.

After a somewhat slow start to her professional career, Whitwell (4-0) is starting to find some real momentum. After a points victory on her debut last year, Whitwell has recorded three stoppage victories in a row. The 28-year-old got a little step up in class in July when she was matched with Victoria Lomax. But Whitwell won with relative ease, stopping the tough Lomax in four rounds. It was a performance full of class and potential. Whitwell is dropping down to featherweight for her first title opportunity in the pro ranks. I am of the understanding that a move from super-featherweight has been on the cards for a while.

Amy Andrew is unbeaten in nine fights, and will see her fight with the highly-touted and former amateur star as a chance to put herself in the shop window for even bigger fights. Andrew turned pro in 2021, and the best win on her record is her points victory over Linzi Buczynskyj last year. A win that earned the 40-year-old the vacant Commonwealth featherweight title. A victory over Whitwell, a fighter who is tipped by many to reach the very top of her craft, would dramatically change the trajectory of Andrew’s career.

Also on the card, rising star Megan Redstall fights Lauryne Brankaer for the vacant IBO flyweight title. Harli Whitwell, the younger sister of Shona, is also expected to make her return to the ring after over two years away due to knee surgery.

It is another stellar Top Tier card. Johnny Clark deserves immense credit for the quality of shows he puts on. Clark digs deep into his own pocket to get the shows on. DAZN need to reward those efforts. Sky could do a lot worse than give Clark some dates. He warrants a platform his efforts so richly deserve, and the budget he needs to keep the show on the road.
