Tysie Gallagher: Beyond The Ropes

It’s been a difficult time of late for Tysie Gallagher. The British and Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion hasn’t fought so far this year. But as they say, business is about to pick up.

I last saw Gallagher earlier this year in London. She went almost unnoticed. The likes of Caroline Dubois, Terri Harper, Ellie Scotney, Chantelle Cameron, and Emma Dolan were at the top table and getting their share of the bright lights. A press conference to formally announce Most Valuable Promotions’ first entry into the UK market. Gallagher was there but seated near the back of the room. The former world title challenger was scheduled to be on that Olympia show.

“It’s like a golden ticket,” the 28-year-old told me. “This could change my life.” But it never came. A shoulder injury curtailed that opportunity. “I felt like my world was crushed,” Gallagher said of missing out on a place on the big show.

That disappointment came off the back of a frustrating 2025. A year that only brought her one fight. A solid points victory over Ellie Hellewell in defence of her British and Commonwealth titles. Gallagher seemingly couldn’t buy any luck.

But things have changed in recent times. Gallagher is now on the ‘comeback’ trail. MVP are heading back to the UK next month. Gallagher will be on that card. And she will do so as an official MVP fighter.

“Signing a multi-year deal with Most Valuable Promotions is a huge moment in my career,” Gallagher said in the press release that announced her becoming part of the ever-increasing MVP family.

Gallagher (10-2) will fight the incredibly tough Ashleigh Johnson on August 29th in Birmingham live on Sky Sports in a six-round contest. The IBF currently has Gallagher ranked as the number five super-bantamweight in the world. A win over Johnson could be followed by a second world title opportunity.

Ramla Ali and Mikiah Kreps will very soon fight for the vacant IBF and WBO world super-bantamweight titles. Gallagher wants to fight the winner. The MVP hook-up will probably mean that she will get her wish.
