Ruby White: “I was lost for words when I got the call that I had been selected.”
Ruby White is a seven-time national champion, and claimed gold at the 2024 World U19 championships in America. But the 19-year-old is now looking forward to an even bigger stage. White has been selected to represent England in the upcoming Commonwealth Games.
“I was lost for words when I got the call that I had been selected. I’ve never been so happy in my life,” White told FightPost. “I couldn’t stop smiling, and I couldn’t wait to tell my mum and sister.”
“Representing Team England at the Commonwealth Games will bring so much to my career in every way,” White added. “It will show the world on a wider scale my talent and my name and it will prove me in the elite ranks.”
At just 19, White already has an impressive self-belief. The aim is not just to get a medal in Glasgow; she wants to win. “I expect so much of myself. I know I can always be better and do better. So my expectations for the Commonwealth Games are nothing less than gold.”
If Ruby White does leave Glasgow with that gold medal around her neck, even that won’t satisfy her. The Los Angeles Olympics in two years’ time is already firmly in her sights. “The next few years are looking in the direction of the 2028 Olympics,” White says. “Gaining all the experience I can. Winning, travelling the world through boxing and getting that 1% better each day.”
