Elise Glynn: “It means a lot to be selected for the Commonwealth Games.”
Elise Glynn will soon be heading to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games. The 24-year-old will look to take the next step in her career in Scotland. An elite amateur who has always carried lofty ambitions.
“It means a lot to be selected for the Commonwealth Games,” Glynn told FightPost. I have been boxing since I was 13, and to go from being told girls don’t box to boxing for GB and England and now going to the Commonwealth Games is an amazing feeling. And hopefully it inspires young girls to get into boxing. Especially, after the setback of only being a reserve for the 2022 Commonwealth Games.”
Glynn has always been confident of her ability. But she is also level-headed and knows it will be a tough tournament. “I am expecting it to be a hard games with good competition. But I’ve worked really hard, and hopefully that shows.”
The Commonwealth Games is steeped in history, and it has been a long-time aim for Glynn. But it is also a tournament that carries importance to the next stage of her career. “It has always been a dream since I started boxing at 13. But the results in Glasgow are just a build on my experience of 97 fights. It’s just to add to my resume, and I am hoping I can perform well and medal.”
It’s been a somewhat frustrating 2026 for Elise Glynn. “I’ve had a few injuries. I’ve not been as active so far this year as I would have liked. But I have had some good sparring camps with the USA and India. I’m now ready to go and box.”
The Los Angeles Olympics are an obvious long-term aim for Glynn. A medal in Glasgow would certainly help that particular ambition. But the frustrations of the year so far are making the 24-year-old a little more reflective of what potentially lies ahead. “With recent setbacks and injuries, I’m taking one tournament at a time,” Glynn says. “So, I don’t have a set-out plan for the next few years; I’m taking it all in my stride.”
The focus right now for Elise Glynn is in the amateur ranks, but at some point, another world is looming. But only when the time is right. “Turning professional is a natural move to make. But when it’s an appropriate time in my career.”
