Beyond The Ropes: Mikaela Mayer vs. Chantelle Cameron
It was perhaps always inevitable that Mikaela Mayer and Chantelle Cameron would share a ring together. The only real surprise is why it took so long to make.
But Mayer and Cameron will finally get to dance in Birmingham on August 29th in Birmingham. It’s the second visit to UK soil for Jake Paul and his Most Valuable Promotions. And in truth, they couldn’t have picked a better main event.

Mayer and Cameron are genuinely A-level fighters. Both are deservedly on the pound-for-pound list. They will come to fight. It will almost certainly be in consideration for fight of the year honours. Some might view it as incredibly premature to label it in such a manner. But while nothing is ever guaranteed in boxing, it is a fight that is unlikely to disappoint.
Cameron has been in desperate search of a worthy dance partner since her rivalry with Katie Taylor ended when it had a little more to give. They split two titanic fights. Cameron wanted the trilogy. It didn’t come, and the Northampton fighter has been somewhat on the outside looking in since that rematch with Taylor in 2023. Cameron has kept winning, but against fighters that couldn’t really satisfy her lofty ambitions. But her patience has been rewarded. The fight with Mikaela Mayer is everything she could have asked for.
Cameron seems happy. Trust me, that’s not always been the case. Boxing has more than once failed her. But things have fallen into place for her of late. Signing with MVP assures her some big nights. Being reunited with Jamie Moore and Nigel Travis could be pivotal. It’s where she is happiest. It’s the gym that she calls home. And where she has enjoyed the most successful period of her career. The win over Katie Taylor often gets overlooked. Forgotten even. Cameron was truly inspired that night. A win that deserved better. Much better.
The big fights haven’t come for her. Until now. She now has an opponent who represents a severe challenge.
Mayer is in the form of her life. The two wins over Sandy Ryan in 2024 and 2025 not only earned her the WBO world welterweight title but also saved a career that had hit a roadblock of much frustration. Chantelle Cameron will know a thing or two about that.
A change of trainer revitalised Mayer. Kofi Jantuah came on board a couple of months before the first fight with Ryan. The improvement was noticeable. A win over the Canadian Mary Spencer up at super-welterweight last year gave Mayer a world title in a third weight division.
Mayer will defend her WBC and WBA world super-welterweight titles. Cameron defends her WBO 154-bauble. Oshae Jones, who holds the IBF version, could be next for the winner and a chance of going undisputed. But there are rematch clauses in place. So we could get to see Mayer and Cameron again. Few will complain if we do. If the fight is as good as we think it will be, we will probably demand it.
Cameron is the betting underdog. But not by much. The odds represent what we will likely get in Birmingham. Their styles will gel perfectly. It is everything the sport should be.
