Top Tier Opportunity: Kacie Doocey Fights Shauna Browne For The WBO European Lightweight Title

Johnny Clark has continued his investment in women’s boxing and added another intriguing fight on his July 12th show at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood.

Kacie Doocey has an unexpected opportunity incredibly early in her career when she fights the highly-ranked Shauna Browne next month for the vacant WBO European lightweight title. The 23-year-old only turned professional last year and has stayed unbeaten in her three fights to date. A debut victory over the tough Beccy Ferguson in July was an encouraging start. Doocey won every one of the six rounds. The win over Ferguson was followed by a stoppage victory over Rajwant Kaur, and last time out, a points victory over Katherine Quintana.

Doocey has done nothing wrong, and she looks like developing into a decent prospect. The South Yorkshire could be forgiven if she had waited a little longer for an opportunity to gatecrash the upper echelons of her division, but to her credit, Doocey has rolled the dice to take on the big-punching Browne. Make no mistake, a victory changes everything for her.

The 31-year-old Browne is a lot more advanced in her professional career. She turned professional in 2023 with a points victory over Vaida Masiokaite. After eight fights, only the current IBF world lightweight champion, Elif Nur Turhan, has beaten. Four of her wins have come inside the distance. Browne carries plenty of power and brings the greater experience to her fight with the up-and-coming Doocey. A win over Doocey would take the Irish fighter a little closer to her dream of fighting for a world title.

The odds are seemingly stacked against Doocey, but it is a fight where she has nothing to lose and everything to gain. Win, lose, or draw, Doocey deserves credit for taking the fight so early in her career. Even before she turned professional early last year, Doocey was thinking big. “I want to build a legacy,” Doocey told me. “I am confident I can be a world champion.”

Top of the bill is the rescheduled fight between Megan Redstall and Maiseyrose Courtney. They clash for the WBO International flyweight title. The unbeaten prospect Shona Whitwell also features on the latest Top Tier Promotions card.
