Hannah Robinson Moves Closer To A World Title Opportunity

Hannah Robinson is now a little step closer to a shot at a version of the world super-lightweight title.

Courtesy of her win over Charlie Sutton last month in Newcastle. That hard-earned victory earned Robinson the Commonwealth Silver and IBF European super-lightweight titles. Winning those two belts has earned the unbeaten 32-year-old a place in the top ten of two sanctioning bodies.

The IBF have given Robinson a lofty number five ranking, and the WBO has her as the 10th best super-lightweight in the world. The opportunity to fight for a world title is edging ever closer for the former amateur star.

After a decorated amateur career, Robinson turned professional in 2024, and that victory over Sutton in April improved her resume to 6-0. The importance of that win has now become apparent.

Robinson will probably feel she needs a little more experience before that maiden attempt at becoming a world champion. “Ideally, as I’ve only boxed 10 rounds the once, it would be good to gain some more experience over that distance,” Robinson told FightPost. “But if the right opportunity presents itself, then I’d take it.”

Sandy Ryan currently holds the WBO 140-pound bauble, with Katie Taylor currently holding the WBC, WBA, and IBF world super-lightweight titles. Taylor is almost certainly one fight away from retirement. A belated date at Croke Park in August or September is being earmarked for Taylor’s swansong. When that retirement call does eventually come, the world titles will then splinter. Robinson could be in prime position to challenge for one of those vacant world titles later this year.
