Hannah Robinson & The Hunt For Major Titles

Hannah Robinson & The Hunt For Major Titles

It was almost inevitable that the former two-time national amateur champion would eventually move into the title picture in the professional ranks. That moment comes on Saturday night at the Vertu Motors Arena in Newcastle.

Robinson and Charlie Sutton will trade blows with the Commonwealth Silver and IBF European super-lightweight titles on the line. A big night for both fighters. A win for either moves them on, and hopefully, towards the major titles.

Sutton will come with her own ambitions and must not be overlooked. Robinson has that extensive amateur pedigree and is the fighter who is probably expected to win. But Robinson will not be complacent. It has been a long time coming for a fighter who always had the look of someone who could reach the very top of her craft.

Titles were always the aim. Even before she left the amateur ranks behind, Robinson always had one eye on global success as a professional. The first little taste of a title fight experience comes on Saturday night. Those two titles might not be the world titles that Robinson craves, but a victory moves her a little closer to realising her dream. They are stepping stones to much bigger things down the road. The unbeaten prospect knows the importance of her fight with Sutton.

“Those titles are another step forward,” Robinson says. “Having a title to my name adds credibility and visibility. It puts me in the mix and makes people look at you differently. I’m hoping it opens doors and brings more opportunities, bigger fights, better rankings, and stronger negotiating power. It’s about progression and positioning myself for the major titles.”

Robinson is right, it is progression. A win and a good performance will set her up quite nicely for a productive year. After turning professional in 2024, the 32-year-old is now unbeaten in five fights, and you sense Robinson will be pushed towards titles of even more meaning later this year. Her fighting apprenticeship is nearing completion.

“I don’t want to leave the sport with any regrets,” Robinson once told me. “I just want to walk away from the sport knowing I have done everything I can.” The business end of her career is about to begin. Robinson’s words were meant for moments like these.

It is about to get serious for Hannah Robinson. A fighter who really should be igniting the interest of the major promoters. Robinson will hope that Saturday night is just the beginning for her. Robinson and Sutton will headline. Leaving that Newcastle ring a double-champion should guarantee more main event slots. Robinson, if the form line holds, should be that fighter.
