Louise Orton Beats Amy Greatorex on Points

Louise Orton Beats Amy Greatorex on Points

A period of extreme frustration ended in Brentwood on Saturday night for the former amateur star Louise Orton on the latest Top Tier show.

Orton took a thoroughly deserved 59-55 points decision over six rounds over the incredibly tough Amy Greatorex to move to 3-0 as a professional. The broad smile at the finish, said everything. Relief and joy the emotions on display. Boxing hasn’t been kind in many ways to Orton in recent times. She deserved this moment.

Greatorex did well to see out the six rounds as Orton showed her impressive and far superior technical skills and, at times, threatened an inside the distance victory. Orton moved through the gears impressively throughout, and despite her immense bravery, the Chesterfield fighter was someway below Orton.

Orton did appear to have the stoppage within reach at several points in the fight, but Greatorex just wouldn’t be overwhelmed, who now falls to 1-7 in the professional ranks.

The winner will hopefully now find luck and regular ring activity. Orton turned professional in 2019, and the intervening years only brought her two fights in those five years. Repeated fights falling through left Orton on the brink of walking away. But the signs are good that finally her luck is changing for the better. Johnny Clark and his Top Tier team will surely have liked what they saw in Essex.

Orton is convinced she belongs at world level, but at 33, she needs to move quickly to realise her lofty ambitions. The talent is obvious. Her performance against Greatorex demonstrated that perfectly. Orton looked a few levels above her game opponent, and you can easily see her competing at a much higher standard.

The ambitions are high. Orton just wants to show what she is capable of. Tonight was a new beginning. Hopefully, her story now reaches a natural conclusion.
