Megan Redstall: The Frontline Warrior Returns on 8th December

Megan Redstall: The Frontline Warrior Returns on 8th December

It was in April of 2022 that we last saw Megan Redstall inside a boxing ring. The unbeaten super-flyweight advanced to 2-0 courtesy of a dominant 40-36 points victory over the perennial UK away corner visitor Claudia Ferenczi in Birmingham. But Redstall has been absent from her sport since. There have been other priorities for the promising prospect.

“I have been out of the ring for approximately twenty months now, but the reasoning behind this was due to being in the final year of my Paramedic Science degree,” Redstall told me. “The degree was very intense, with my final year taking up the majority of my time and attention. Having now graduated and working full-time as a paramedic, my focus is now back on boxing, and I can’t wait to be back in that ring.”

But Redstall hasn’t totally let her boxing gather too much ring rust. The studying has been relentless, but the fighter has still found time for her passion.

“Throughout the time not being in the ring, I was still training and sparring. I just wanted to make sure I could 100% dedicate my time to the fight and have no distractions. I feel that it is so important to have a career alongside boxing, and becoming a paramedic is one of my proudest achievements.”

There is something different about fighters. Something that the vast majority of us just don’t have. The sport can be incredibly addictive. Despite everything else that is going on in their minds, they just want to taste the rigours of the sport. A brutal sport that they just can’t let go of. Redstall has badly missed her craft, but even in her extended hiatus, thoughts of a return to the ring have never been far away.

“The frustration of not fighting has been unmatched,” Redstall relayed to FightPost. “But I’ve just been trying to turn it into a positive and use the time out of the ring to put the hours into the gym and grow as an athlete. I still attended some professional boxing shows due to some of the other pros from the gym fighting, and this has kept my fire fuelled and just made the hunger and desire to fight greater.”

The absence has only made the heart grow fonder for her sport. A fighter who just can’t wait to get her career up and running.

“I honestly can not express to you how excited I am to fight again,” Redstall told me. “Just to be in that environment and do what you love and train so hard for, there just is no better feeling. Having all my family and friends there to support me and just be amongst the other pros. Like I said it’s just a feeling that is unmatched and unless you box you will never know what that buzz feels like. Also, putting all the hours in the gym while working full-time as a paramedic just makes it that tiny bit better as I know that I have worked as hard as I can and the fight is the part which I enjoy the most and have the most fun.”

Redstall will hope that December 8th in Bournemouth will just be a new beginning. A comeback fight that will shed the ring rust and extend her unbeaten start to her professional career to three. But the time away has only heightened the size of her ambitions. Redstall isn’t just happy to compete again, she wants to win titles in the next twelve months.

“In 2024, I am looking to get a title under my belt, and it is going to be an active year for me. Now I have my degree and can focus on fighting, I’m going to be ready for that title shot, and that is what I am aiming for. I just want to work my way up those rankings and just show everyone how hard and dedicated I am to becoming that champion.”

Despite the time out out of the ring, Redstall has plenty of time to catch up on her rivals. She is only 24, and once the comeback fight is out of the way, Redstall can make up for lost time in 2024. There are plenty of fights available to her at domestic level. The recent addition of a British super-flyweight will be of interest to her. A fight with the former Commonwealth title challenger Nicola Hopewell might be also. But whatever the boxing future holds for Megan Redstall her return is more than welcomed.
