As grudges go, they do not get much bigger than that between WBC, IBF and WBA world middleweight champion, Claressa Shields, and WBO world middleweight champion, Savannah Marshall.

Having come face-to-face twice already this year during live boxing events on Sky Sports, Shields and Marshall have not been shy in expressing precisely how they feel towards each other.

“You can’t do anything I can do. You can sit here and talk, but you’re not going to win on September 10,” – Shields

“I’m not just going to beat you. I’m going to hurt you and outbox you,” – Marshall

On Tuesday afternoon, the two came face-to-face as their showdown at London’s O2 Arena was officially announced to the boxing world. Both undefeated in their professional careers, they will lay it all on the line and settle their unfinished business. The battle for undisputed at 160lb is finally on.

This will not be the first time the ladies have met in the ring. In 2012, Shields suffered the only defeat of her entire boxing career at the hands of ‘The Silent Assassin’ in an amateur bout. This being the catalyst of a decade-long feud that has fuelled the fire for the epic fight build-up that started in style today. Tensions high, confidence higher. Shields vows to get her long-awaited revenge, whereas Marshall assures her that history will repeat itself.

Two elite champions, both in their prime, with a decade-long rivalry that has stood the test of time. All belts on the line, a shared dream and two entirely different personalities. This fight has a bit of everything but, most importantly, it has the power to inspire.

It was announced at the press conference today that this fight will be the main event of an all-female fight card, including Mikaela Mayer and Alycia Baumgardner who will clash on the card as the co-main event. 2022 has already been an incredible year in women’s boxing history. Super fights are being made without finances or politics getting in their way, causing a surge in popularity of the sport. Everything about women’s boxing just seems to get better. This fight has come at the perfect time.

Fight fans everywhere have been discussing this bout and disagreeing over the potential outcomes. An epic clash of styles in what is arguably the most highly anticipated fight that boxing has to offer right now. When the fists start doing the talking, who will have the last word?
