Michael Hunter Takes Another Scalp
By Henry Walter
American heavyweight contender Michael Hunter, 33, knocked out fellow US contender Mike Wilson (21-2) with a spectacular right hand on Tuesday night in New York to remind the division just how dangerous a fighter he is.
Hunter remains the divisions most avoided man and his latest victory, coming in the fourth round, only served to highlight yet again that he is more than good enough to face the very best in his division.
Hunter’s impressive right hand landed repeatedly in the opening round and the fight only became more one-sided as it went on.
Wilson, was hurt again in the second but clung on to survive the round. By the fourth round he was clearly well out of his depth and he finally succumbed to an overhand right, despite having never previously been stopped in 22 previous fights.
Hunter (20-1-1) is now ranked in the top ten by all the major governing bodies and immediately called out British contender Dillian Whyte after the fight.
Whyte has previously shown little interest in facing the dangerous Hunter but if the fight can be made it would be a tremendous match up. Whyte or not, Hunter has more than earned a big heavyweight fight later this year.
