BCB Round-Up: Katie Healy Wins On Her Professional Debut

Katie Healy shone on her professional boxing debut last weekend as she made a winning start to life in the paid ranks.

The former world kick boxing champion enjoyed a perfect start top her new chapter as she defeated Claudia Ferenczi in Sheffield last Friday.

The Bilston boxer boxed well to record a points win over four rounds to get off to a flying start on her Fightzone debut.

“I loved it,” explained Healy. “I felt really calm beforehand. I think it’s because I’d put so much in to my 12 week fight camp. I said to myself I was going to enjoy and I did; every second.

“Claudia is a very tough girl and knows her way around a ring but I felt good in there. I loved the whole experience; the weigh-in, the ringwalk, wearing the smaller 8z gloves. I’m really grateful and I’m looking forward to the next one!”

A number of fellow BCB fighters were also in action on the show, which took place in the car park area at Sheffield Arena due to COVID-19 Restrictions.

Telford’s Bradley Thompson also shone on his pro bow. Thompson, brother of English Bantamweight Champion, Liam Davies, recorded a TKO victory over Steve Maguire.

“I’m happy with the stoppage and the performance,” Thompson said. “It’s been a long time coming what with COVID but it’s great to get under way in the pro ranks.

Road warriors MJ Hall (Brierly Hill) , Kearon Thomas (Walsall) and Clayton Bricknell (Wolverhampton) were also in action in the away corner and, whilst they slipped to defeat, all put in solid performances against the home fighters on the card.

Completing the BCB round-up, Wolverhampton’s Dwain Grant lost to highly-fancied Brett McGinty on the Sam Eggington undercard in Coventry on Saturday evening.
