DENNIS HOBSON SIGNS WITH NEW CHANNEL – FIGHTZONE
Dennis Hobson and Steve Crump’s Fight Academy outfit are the latest to sign a broadcast deal with Fightzone – the exciting new boxing channel that will be launching officially on Friday (April 30).
Fightzone will be working with different domestic promoters to showcase the best of Britain’s emerging talent, giving fans the chance to follow fighter journeys from debuts to title winning fights.
Yorkshire-based Crump, and Hobson will bring more than 30 years top-level boxing experience to the table. Dennis has taken a number of fighters to the pinnacle of the sport – including Ricky Hatton, Clinton Woods and David Haye – and promoted shows everywhere from Lincoln to Las Vegas. With Crump alongside in recent years, the pair have put on numerous successful promotions – including making history with the UK’s first ever drive-in boxing show – and built up a thriving stable of fighters that includes Kash Ali, Tommy Frank and Kane Salvin.
The UK heavyweights are absolutely flying at the moment. Daniel Dubois, Nathan Gorman and Fabio Wardley are all currently staking a claim to be Britain’s best, but Fight Academy’s Kash Ali isn’t far off from gate-crashing the scene. The Rotherham man has a single disqualification loss in 19 fights and, with nine big KOs on his record, is one of Britain’s most promising big-men.
An injury defeat last time out put paid to Tommy Frank’s unbeaten record but, at 13-1 (3), the flyweight is still ranked at number two in Britain. The Sheffield fighter has suffered setbacks – with scheduled British and IBO World Title fights falling by the wayside due to Covid – but is positive that 2021 will be his breakthrough year. Meanwhile, Frank’s stable mate, Kane Salvin, picked up the Central Area Super Featherweight belt in his last fight and aims to go 7-0 on May 21st in his home city when he faces Michael Gomez Jr in an English Title eliminator.
“I’ve been involved in boxing for decades, have promoted world title fights in America, and worked with so many great fighters – but Fightzone has got me as excited as I’ve ever been,” said Hobson. “British boxing has needed a shake up for some time, and this is going to be revolutionary.
“There are plenty of very good fighters who never get the chance to fulfil their potential. There are boxers who could have been world level but were never built up in the right way, or given the right opportunities. Fightzone will help to change that, and it will be great for fans to be able to follow their journeys right to the very top. I’m really excited for the future and can’t wait to get going.”
