Dave Coldwell Hopeful of AJ/Fury Slot For Gill

Dave Coldwell Hopeful of AJ/Fury Slot For Gill

Dave Coldwell’s excellent start to 2021 continued on Saturday night as Jordan Gill, his featherweight pupil, produced a dominant performance against Cesar Juarez.

The Mexican arrived in London with a solid reputation with a number of admirable performances at the highest level, but he had no answer combatting Gill’s wide repertoire. Coldwell, Gill’s manager and trainer, was delighted with how the Chatteris man performed.

“I was absolutely over the moon with Jordan,” beamed Coldwell after giving the fight a second viewing. “There were many questions left unanswered after his fight with [Enrique] Tinoco, and I think Jordan went a long way to showing the improvements he’s made since that fight. Juarez was rough and ready, and he tried to make the fight as hard as possible for Jordan, but the way Jordan responded throughout impressed me so much. This is stuff he’s spent so much time on in the gym and there’s no greater pride for a trainer then seeing a fighter do everything you’ve told him when taking a win.”

Despite only registering a victory on Saturday night, Coldwell is clear what he wants next for Gill. “We’d love it to be Isaac Lowe in a big summer fight and then move onto world level. There’s already been some drama between Jordan and Isaac on social media so it’s already underway, but it’s a fight we want and it’s a fight where Jordan can push on. It’d be great to get this on the Anthony Joshua v Tyson Fury undercard because I’d love Jordan to show a huge audience what he’s capable of on the biggest stage.”
