Dave Coldwell Excited For Leigh Wood Opportunity
It’s been a busy start for Dave Coldwell 2021. From both a management and training perspective, Coldwell’s plans for a number of his fighters became apparent when Matchroom released their early year schedule last week.
One fight that immediately jumped out was the featherweight battle for domestic honours as Leigh Wood, managed by Coldwell, takes on Reece Mould on February 13th. Coldwell is delighted that his man has been handed such an opportunity.
“It’s a really big fight for Leigh Wood at this stage of his career,” buzzed Coldwell. “His semi final loss to Jazza Dickens in the Golden Contract final was hard to take as it was such a brilliant fight between two great lads, but Leigh has to push on now. He had big dreams going into that tournament but it wasn’t to be. This is a chance for him to start again and fulfil the potential that has long been talked about. The British title can be a great platform for him.”
On the threat of Mould, Coldwell added, “Reece Mould has been handed a superb opportunity and he’ll want to take full advantage of it. He hasn’t put a foot wrong as a pro so far and he’s got some good wins, but I do fully believe that he’s taking a big step up against Leigh. Both fighters are being provided with a great chance that is going to be on Sky so it’s a big opportunity to make a statement. I’ve been talking about how much I believe in Leigh for a while now and this is going to be a massive moment for him.”
