MMA Fighter of the Week: Khamzat Chimaev
By Dan McConnell
This past weekend’s UFC card felt like one that should’ve been on pay-per-view, it was that stacked and hyped.
The grudge match between Tyron Woodley and Colby Covington was finally settled. Donald Cerrone continued his amazing career. Khamzat Chimaev again proved why he is the hottest rising talent in the entire company.
The ever exciting Johnny Walker looked better than ever, and Mackenzie Dern showcased her excellent grappling.
This weeks FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week can only go to one man. One of the most feared fighters currently signed to the UFC, Khamzat Chimaev.
The 26-year old Russian-Chimaev continued his exciting rise to the top of the division, as he won inside the first 17 seconds with a one punch KO over Gerald Meerschaert!
The welterweight/middleweight only made his UFC debut in July, and already has 3 wins under his belt over John Phillips, Rhys McKee and now Meerschaert.
The former Brave CF fighter who fights out of Stockholm in Sweden, currently holds an insane record of 9 fights, 9 wins and 9 finishes. This man is a scary assassin inside the octagon.
Chimaev has fought 3 times in 66 days, accounting 196 strikes to his unfortunate opponents and only been on the end of a total of 2 strikes. The newest Russian to grace the UFC is a serious problem.
‘The Wolf’ is hunting for blood and eyes up a title shot against either Kamaru Usman or Israel Adesanya.
With the champ tied up against Gilbert Burns in December, and Masvidal v Diaz 2 potentially in the works what could be next?
Damian Maia was already pre-scheduled to be in the aligned, but I’d like to see another step up for Chimaev. Someone like Rafael Dos Anjos, Anthony Pettis or even Leon Edwards as a number 1 contender fight.
