UFC 249 Targeted To Land In Jacksonville, Florida

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the UFC 249, take-two card, was headed for Florida on May 9th. Tonight, according to veteran reporter, Dave Meltzer, Jacksonville will play host city to the event in ‘The Sunshine State’.

Meltzer, a veteran, well-connected reporter, has detailed how the Octagon is targetted to land at the VyStar Arena, in Jacksonville on May 9th. after it’s initial cancellation on April 18th. – amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“It looks like it’s (UFC 249) going to be the Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville,” Meltzer revealed. “I think it’s disclosed then. They’ve actually told fighters that they’re flying into Jacksonville, but there are people in Jacksonville that have to book a building. That’s where it looks like it’s going to be. It’s right across from Daily’s Place.”

Promotional president, Dana White was forced to cancel the April 18th. showing of UFC 249 at the Tachi Palace Resort Casino in Lemoore, California after Disney and ESPN executives asked the organizational leader, to “stand down”. White has previously explained how the UFC would be the first sports organisation to return to a normal schedule despite the coronavirus outbreak.

Last week, the promotion had filed up to twenty-two trademarks for ‘Fight Island’ and ‘UFC Fight Island’ with White detailing how he plans to host fights on a weekly basis, with both fighters based in the United States, and internationally, expected to fight on a private island in the coming months.

UFC 249 on May 9th. is expected to be headlined by an interim lightweight title clash between former interim gold-holder, Tony Ferguson, and surging contender, Justin Gaethje. A second championship bout features on the card as bantamweight kingpin, Henry Cejudo looks to make the first defence of his 135-pound gold, as he meets former two-time champion, Dominick Cruz on short notice.
