By Ross Markey

Two-weight world champion, Amanda ‘The Lioness’ Nunes will attempt to make the first defence of her UFC featherweight title on May 9th., as she’s pitted with former Invicta FC featherweight best, Felicia Spencer.

In a rescheduling of their clash – which was initially penned for the co-headliner of UFC 250 in São Paulo, Brazil – Nunes and Spencer are now expected to feature on the May 9th. card, with a location and venue yet to be officially confirmed. News of the featherweight title clash was initially reported by ESPN reporter, Brett Okamoto.

Bahia-born bruiser, Nunes, has enjoyed arguably the most successful career in women’s mixed-martial-arts antiquity, undeniably. The 31-year-old recently added Germaine de Randamie to her win column for a second time – along with victories over sport mainstays, Cris Cyborg, Ronda Rousey, Miesha Tate, Valentina Shevchenko (x2), and Holly Holm. Nunes, who claimed the 145-pound championship back in December of 2018 via a shocking opening round knockout of the previously noted, Cyborg – will attempt her first defence of the crown on May 9th.

29-year-old grappler, Spencer, has certainly made a considerable statement in the UFC’s featherweight division, ever since her promotional bow back in May of last year. The Montreal-born Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt managed a submission win over fellow former Invicta FC best, Megan Anderson, before dropping her first professional defeat to the aforementioned Cyborg, in a more than impressive showing.

At UFC Fight Night Norfolk recently, Spencer earned her premier title tilt under the organisation’s banner, via a first-round, ground-and-pound win against Zarah Frain Dos Santos. Before her transition to the UFC – Spencer notched a penultimate round rear-naked choke win over Pam Sorenson to claim vacant Invicta FC gold.
