Alistair Overeem vs. Walt Harris Rescheduled For May 16th Main Event

A clash of heavyweight knockout artists has been rescheduled for a UFC Fight Night event on May 16th. – as decorated Dutch kickboxer, Alistair ‘The Demolition Man’ Overeem, clashes with Walt ‘The Big Ticket’ Harris, in a third planned matching. Harris announced the pairing on his official Instagram account.

This will be the third go-around for this pairing, following the unfortunate circumstances surrounding the initially penned bout at UFC Fight Night D.C. last December. Harris, 36, was forced to withdraw from the pairing due to the disappearance of his stepdaughter, Aniah Blanchard in the weeks leading up to the event.

The matchup was then scheduled for the main event of UFC Fight Night Portland on April 11th., but due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the event was postponed indefinitely. Overeem and Harris are now penned to headline the May 16th. event, with a location and venue yet to be announced.

Veteran kickboxing ace, Overeem, dropped his first loss in three outings at the D.C. event – as he dropped a final round knockout to surging contender, Jairzinho Rozenstruik. In a bout he was comfortably winning on all three judges scorecards, Overeem was clipped with a right uppercut in the final stages of the frame. The 39-year-old required plastic surgery to repair his lip after the contest. Before the defeat, Overeem had managed knockouts of Aleksei Oleinik, and Sergey Pavlovich.

Harris, who will make his first Octagon walk since the death of Blanchard, also holds a knockout win over Oleinik, as well as stoppages of Sergey Spivak, Chase Sherman, Daniel Spitz, and Cyril Askar. The #9 ranked contender is a two-time Golden Gloves champion in both Alabama and Florida.
