Cage Warriors 113 Manchester Preview
By Dan McConnell
This Friday night Cage Warriors returns to Manchester, for the second time in just under a month for with a huge night of action with CW 113.
The promotions second event of the year was scheduled for London but due to the spread of the Coronavirus and restrictions of the arena, President Graham Boylan was forced to move the card.
The fight-night has suffered a loss of fighters who have been pulled from the card due to the effects of the virus, but added a bonus UFC London bout and features one massive title fight for fight fans to feast their eyes upon!
In the main-event UFC middleweight contender Darren ‘The Dentist’ Stewart (11-4) will face Bartoz Fabinski in a relocated fight from the scrapped UFC London card.
The London born Stewart, will make his return to the Cage Warriors promotion for one night only and look to continue his climb of the UFC’s 185-pound rankings, with a win over his Polish opponent Bartoz ‘The Butcher’ Fabinski.
Who can come out victorious between ‘The Dentist’ and ‘The Butcher’ inside the BEC Arena Manchester this Friday night?
In the co-main event, Welsh warrior Mason ’The Dragon’ Jones (8-0) looks to continue his unbeaten streak against Belfast’s own Joe McColgan (6-2-1) who steps in as a late replacement.
The prestigious Cage Warriors lightweight title was recently vacated by former champion Jai Herbert who was called up to the UFC and will add a little extra spice to this matchup.
Mason Jones is one of the most exciting fighters signed within the promotion and in Europe, with Joe McColgan looking to take full advantage of his first ever title bout and upset the odds in Manchester.
Also, on the main-card experienced Englishman Nathan Jones (13-9) faces France’s own David Bear (8-1) in a welterweight contest.
This Friday also sees the return of Paddy ‘The Baddy’ Pimblett (14-3) who gets back in action for the first time in over two years. The Liverpudlian lightweight has had an uncertain time in his career with a series of injuries, and his last four schedule fights all unfortunately pulled.
Pimblett will take on the experienced Decky ‘The Diamond’ Dalton (11-4) who has fought for the likes of Akuma Fc, Brave CF, BAMMA and Cage Warriors before. The Diamond is a team mate of Joe McColgan with Fight Academy Ireland in Belfast, and the exciting Paul Hughes who is currently on a 5-fight win streak and on the Cage Warriors roster.
McColgan, Dalton and Hughes are all looking to make Cage Warriors a home and eventually make the step-up like their former training partners Karl Moore and Leah McCourt have made in recent years.
FAI in Belfast is one of the most under-rated gyms in the UK and Ireland right now. Can both Irishmen be on the road for causing a potential upset in Manchester?
While on the prelims the pick of the bunch sees Perry Goodwin takes on Steve Aimable, Adam Amarasinghe faces Jake Bond and Lewis Monarch squares off against Kingsley Crawford.
