Cage Warriors 112: Preview

Cage Warriors 112: Preview

By Dan McConnell

This weekend the Cage Warriors cage returns for their first show of 2020 and first ever event held in Manchester!

Europe’s leading mixed martial arts promotion will make its debut inside the Bowlers Exhibition Centre.

In the main-event Cage Warriors bantamweight champion Jack Cartwright (7-0) who trains out of SBG Manchester, defends his crown against Croatian top prospect Manuel Billic (15-6).

Cartwright won the title last time out in the Cage Warriors one-night tournament CW Unplugged 2, where he finished Scott Malone and Marko Kovacevic both inside the first-round back in September 2019 to win the title.

His challenger Manuel Billic will be making his walk through the Cage Warriors arena for only the second time, after defeating Bryan Creighton in February 2019.

Cartwright will be putting his undefeated record on the line as well as prestigious title, with the Croatian hoping to upset his homecoming party.

In the co-man event of the evening SBG South Shields fighter Adam ‘The Love Doctor’ Proctor (11-1) looks to extend his 6-fight win streak against a tough and undefeated Latvian welterweight in Madars Fleminas (6-0).

Proctor has fought for major European promotions like ACB and BAMMA before making the jump to Cage Warriors in 2018.

Also, on the main-card former Cage Warriors middleweight champion and Dublin’s Team KF fighter James Webb (6-2-1) begins his road to redemption when he faces off against grappler Mick Stanton (6-3).

The Englishman-Webb is coming off a loss to newly crowned 185-pound champion Nathias Frederick at Cage Warriors 111, while Liverpool’s Stanton is riding a 3-fight win streak.

Manchester’s own Martin Stapleton (19-7) faces off against Frenchman Yassine Belhadj, who is making his promotional debut and looking to hand a loss to the SBG Manchester man who is on a 2-fight losing skid.

The first fight of the main-card sees Scotland’s former title challenger Scott Malone (6-3) square off against the undefeated Englishman Adam Wilson (4-0) in what should be a cracker of a contest!

Derry’s own undefeated Paul Hughes (4-0) will be looking to make another huge statement against Youri Panada (4-1). The exciting 155-pounder has said on record of his struggles to find opponents in the past, but will look to add to his victory last time out at Cage Warriors Unplugged 2 in June 2019.

With Cage Warriors Belfast on the 16th May, and the UFC returning to Belfast in August, Hughes will have his sights firmly focused on a quick turn-around on both cards, while continuing to make waves as one of the top prospects in Ireland right now!

Cage Warriors 112 is live from Manchester on Saturday 7th March. The pro-prelims start at 6:30pm and can be watched live and free on the Cage Warriors Facebook page and website. The main card starts at 9pm on UFC Fight Pass.
