Cris Cyborg bids to become most decorated women’s MMA fighter ever
This Saturday night the Bellator bouts gets back in action at the ‘Fabulous’ Forum in Inglewood California. A stacked card that features a massive women’s featherweight title bout and the continuation of the Bellator featherweight Grand Prix Quarter-finals, as well as the most stacked card in Bellator history to date!
In the main-event reigning women’s featherweight champion Julia Budd (13-2) will defend her world title against the debuting Cris Cyborg (21-2) who looks to make history as the only woman to hold titles in all the major mixed martial arts promotions.
The former Strikeforce, Invicta Fc and UFC featherweight champion looks to complete the grand-slam by lifting the Bellator 145-pound title. Can Cyborg complete the final piece in the puzzle?
After winning the Strikeforce title way back in 2009, the 34-year old continued her unbeaten streak and conquered the Invicta featherweight division in 2013, until her eventual signing by the UFC in 2016.
Riding an incredible 20-fight win streak Cyborg overcame names such as Gina Carano to Holly Holm. The stage was set to defend her 145-pound title against arguably the greatest UFC women’s fighter of all time in Amanda Nunes.
Cyborg was shockingly and surprisingly knocked out for the first time in her career in the very first round by ‘The Lioness’. She will now return to Inglewood California, where she lost her UFC title with the laser-focus on regaining gold inside another promotion and making history!
Other fights on the card
The co-main event will see former Bellator bantamweight champion Darrion Caldwell (14-3) take on the undefeated Adam Borics (14-0) for a place in the Bellator semi-finals, in what should be an incredible warm-up act to the main-event!
Also, California’s own Henry Corrales (17-4) who was last defeated by Caldwell for a place in the quarters of the tournament, will take on Juan Archuleta (23-2) who himself hopes to bounce back from his defeat last time out to featherweight champion Patricio Pitbull.
A former UFC duo making their debut inside the Bellator cage will see Sergio Pettis (18-5) taking on Alfred Khashakyan (11-4) in a bantamweight bout.
Former UFC welterweight Curtis Millender (17-5) returns to the Bellator promotion after leaving in 2017. Millender will face Moses Murrietta (8-3) in a catchweight contest.
Also on the prelims Anthony ‘Pretty Boy’ Taylor (6-5) makes his Bellator return against Chris Avila (7-8) and top prospect Aaron Pico (4-3) rounds off an incredible card against fellow-American Daniel Carey (7-3).
