FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week-Jairzinho Rozenstruik
By Dan McConnell
After a week’s break, the Fightpost MMA Fighter of the Week award is back! With action from the UFC, KSW and Combate Americas, there was only one man that could possibly receive this week’s honours!
At UFC DC this Saturday night, Byrce Mitchell secured an incredible twister submission victory over Matt Sayles which was the second only in UFC history. The former Ultimate Fighter contestant certainly put in a good shift for this week’s award.
However in the main-event, Jairzinho Rozenstruik an undefeated heavyweight from Suriname secured a brutal knockout in the last 10 seconds of the fight, over a decorated veteran of the sport in Alistair Overeem!
Not many know much about the fighter nicknamed ‘Bigi Boy’ who secured his third knockout victory inside the UFC’s famous octagon.
After losing the first three rounds to his Dutch opponent, Rozenstruik pulled off a jaw-dropping fifth round knockout with just four seconds left on the clock. Incredible scenes!
An inspiring finish in the final round to get the win, after connecting with a strong left and then following it with a right hand that exploded over Overeem’s face, opening up a huge cut on his upper lip.
In his post-fight interview Rozenstruik said
‘That’s what we worked for, one shot one kill!’ and that’s certainly what we done.
He called out Francis Ngannou and that’s a fight both fans and the UFC swiftly want booked!
Now holding a 10-0 undefeated record, the heavyweight has taken down Junior Albini, Allen Crowder, Andrei Arlovski and now Alistair Overeem. A few nice names on his record already.
Congratulations Jairzinho Rozenstruik. You take this week’s FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week award!
