Darren Till Calls For Middleweight Matchup With Yoel Romero
By Ross Markey
Recent UFC middleweight mover, Darren ‘The Gorilla’ Till has made a u-turn on the possibility of a meeting with three-time title chaser, Yoel ‘Soldier of God’ Romero, after his recent divisional debut victory over Kelvin Gastelum.
Former welterweight title challenger Till, made his middleweight birth last weekend at UFC 244, after a tough cut to 170-pounds in his most recent matchups, and immediately entered the top five at 185-pounds via a patient display against the previously mentioned Gastelum.
After the co-main event clash, Till was asked about the possibility of a pairing with freestyle wrestler, Romero, to which he jokingly replied,
“No f**k that guy, I don’t ever wanna (sic) fight him, he’s a beast.”
Olympic silver-medalist Romero has been campaigning for a fourth scheduled title opportunity, vying replace the injured Paulo Costa in a meeting with incumbent champion, Israel ‘The Last Stylebender’ Adesanya.
Despite Nigerian-Kiwi striker Adesanya teasing the matchup, promotion President, Dana White has told how Romero must secure a win before another title fight.
White, went on to further explain how the organization were working on sealing an opponent for Romero, with names such as Jared Cannonier and former two-time foe Robert Whittaker rumoured.
Liverpudlian striker Till, has now performed a ‘u-turn’ and thrown his name into the hat to square off with Florida based Romero.
Taking to Instagram, Till issued a ‘come and get it’ plea to Romero. @darrentill2 – “Lets go @yoelromeromma”
The following morning, Till posted a meme, captioned; @darrentill2 – “Ahhh f**k. When you wake up and realise you called out Yoel Romero”.
