Yves Ngabu aiming for the top after his next defence!

European cruiserweight champion Yves Ngabu will defend his title against former Olympian Lawrence Okolie as part of the undercard of Josh Taylor vs Regis Prograis’ World Boxing Super Series final.

Ngabu has always been a fan of British boxing.

“I watched it when I grew up and this is what I am here for. It feels great to be here and shows that I am on my way to where I want to be. I want to be at the top.”

Ngabu fights out of Roeselare, Belgium, where

“The sport is not so big. I have to do these things to get to the top. It is very hard to be a boxer in Belgium.”

As a result, the champion is happy to fight away from home.

“I do have fans that will come over for the fight.”

As for his opponent, Lawrence Okolie continues to rise up the rankings at an impressive rate.

“I am excited for this fight. However, excited or not, I am just focussed on my training. It is the most important thing. Okolie is a big name here but all I do is train and on the night I will go and do what I have to do.”

“I was there for his (Okolie’s) last two fights. He is a very good fighter. He was won them all. This fight has been talked about for a long time. This is the first thing that I wanted. I wanted to come to the UK and fight the number one. I wanted it to be here.”

Ngabu is careful when discussing confidence.

“I just focus on my training and I just know what I can do. I know I can beat him and I think I have fought tougher guys than him. I am focussed and we will see on the night.”

Should he come through another tough defence, Ngabu is lasered in on the elite cruiserweights.

“I want to reach the top. It’s why I am here. I have good people around me now and I know they can get me to where I want to go.”

Before he can reach the top, Yves Ngabu has a tough test in front of him when he faces the rangy and skilful Brit, Lawrence Okolie on the undercard. Don’t miss this one.
