Usman vs Covington Looks on UFC 244?

The welterweight championship is reportedly up for grabs in November.

According to reports from Brazilian outlet Combate, a welterweight title fight between undisputed champion Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman and former interim champion Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington is set for UFC 244 on November 2nd. from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The bad-blooded clash between the grappling aces has long been rumoured after Covington’s five-round beatdown of former division best Robbie Lawler in early August, and according to an article written by Portuguese journalist Raphael Marinho, the three parties are currently involved in negotiating the potential 170-pound title tilt.

Smothering wrestler Usman fished the title from the grasps of Tyron Woodley in March this year, after notable victories over Demian Maia and Rafael dos Anjos. Ending Woodley’s three-year stint at the top of the welterweight pile, a matchup with the brash, polarizing Covington was a firm possibility from the beginning of the 32-year-old’s reign.

Equally, dominant wrestler, Covington displayed his incredible cardio base and nonstop output throughout his one-sided five-round unanimous decision display against the still highly dangerous Robbie Lawler, as the American Top Team product reinstated his stake as the number one contender at 170 pounds after over a year away from the Octagon.

In the post-fight scrum with ESPN, security was placed on standby as Usman, a pundit that night, engaged in some back and forth barbs with the California native, with both men seemingly agreeing to throw down later this year. Could UFC 244 provide the perfect setting for this heated affair?

UFC 244 takes place on November 2nd. from Madison Square Garden in New York City, with a handful of exciting matchups already confirmed to take place. Brazilian striker Johnny Walker looks to continue his timely rise through the ranks as he takes on Corey Anderson in a high stakes light heavyweight match, while former heavyweight title challenger Derrick Lewis meets Bulgarian heavy hitter Blagoy Ivanov.

A potential flyweight title eliminator between Katlyn Chookagian and Jennifer Maia is expected to land in NYC, while just recently, the undefeated middleweight finisher Edmen Shahbazyan has been confirmed to take on Poland’s Krzysztof Jotko.
