FightPost MMA Fighter of the Week: Leon Edwards

Leon Edwards went into his main event at UFC San Antonio with a surprisingly low ranking of only 12. Despite good wins over the likes of Gunnar Nelson and Donald Cerrone, Edwards still seems to be the fighter everyone forgets or ignores.

But that will now undoubtedly change, Edwards might not be in the immediate title conversation, but he’s not far off.

Rafael dos Anjos the 4th ranked welterweight and the former UFC lightweight champion became the latest victim on Edwards impressive 8 fight win streak.

There might be more exciting fighters in his division, but few are more effective. The impressive elbows are now a given, but I liked his all round energy consumption on Saturday night.

Edwards seemed to be fighting in second gear, content to just touch dos Anjos, rather than look to try and blast out his opponent.

Post fight Edwards asked for Jorge Masvidal, but who he gets next will largely depend on who wins between Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler, and of course the manner of the victory.

Edwards improved his record to 18-3 and his performance against dos Anjos has earned him our MMA Fighter of the Week honours.
