Summer Rumble 9 Preview

Summer Rumble 9 Preview

By Daniel Gibbon

Summer Rumble 9 will see the some of the North East’s most promising boxers returning to the ring, including ‘The Benwell Bomber’ Joseph Laws (5-0-0).

The welterweight prospect has already garnered an extremely loyal following thanks to his aggressive exciting style, charismatic personality, and underdog story. His underdog story stemmed from him being born prematurely resulting in him weighing around just 1 pound.

His loyal following was highlighted during his biggest spot to date, on the Ritson (18-1-0) vs Pantera (22-3-0) undercard. His walkout had the whole Metro Radio Arena on their feet before he comfortably dispatched of the seasoned veteran Chris Truman (13-10-2) with a 4th round TKO victory.

It seems fitting, that the 24-year-old prospect from Benwell will return to the stadium of light just over 1 year after making his professional debut at the same venue. Laws will be looking to repeat the result of his professional debut, in which he defeated Sylwester Walczak (5-36-2) with a 3rd round TKO.

A win at Summer Rumble 9 would take Laws closer to two of his targets. The first being the coveted Northern area welterweight championship and the second being a fight against British rising star Conor Benn (15-0-0).

Laws has been vocal about wanting to fight Benn throughout his career and if the two continue to win then there’s not much that could stop the fight from being made.
Summer Rumble 9 will also see the return of Lawrence Osueke (8-0-0), Tom Hill (6-0-0), Darren Surtees (11-0-0), Adam Gair (1-0-0), and many more.

Summer Rumble 9 will take place at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland, on Sunday 14th July 2019.
