Bellator London Preview
By Dan McConnell
Bellator MMA continue their European series this Saturday night in London’s Wembley Stadium, with the Bellator middleweight title on the line.
It was announced earlier in the week that the broadcasting of the event will be shared between Sky Sports and Channel 5, which is a ground-breaking dual broadcast and massive coup for the growth of MMA in UK and Ireland.
Considered by some the best middleweight on the planet, Gegard Mousasi (45-6-2) defends his title against a former BJJ world champion in the undefeated Rafael Lovato Jr (9-0). This will be Mousasi’s third fight from leaving the UFC and his second defence of the 205-pound title. While the Brazilian-Lovato will get the chance of a lifetime and opportunity to lift his second professional mixed martial arts title.
Mousasi successfully defended his title against current Bellator welterweight champion Rory MacDonald in September of 2018, to deny ‘The Red King’ his second Bellator belt. MacDonald recently defended his 185-pound title last Saturday night, now it’s the turn of the 205 champ!
In the co-main event London’s own Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley (40-17-2) welcomes newcomer to the Bellator organisation in welterweight Erick Silva (20-10-1). The two former UFC fighters are two experienced veterans and will get the chance to put on a show in the co-main event spot on Saturday.
Also on the card is highly-rated Irishman James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher (8-1) who looks to add his second victory in his newly-found bantamweight division, and carry on from his excellent head-lining performance at Bellator Dublin in February. Gallagher will take on American Jeremy Labiano (12-6).
Highly rated Englishmen in middleweight Mike Shipman looks to continue in his rise for a title shot with champion Mousasi who fights later that night.
Undefeated 7-0 Brit-Fabian Edwards looks to continue his unbeaten streak when he takes on Jonathan Bosuku also on the main-card.
Former reality-TV star turned professional MMA fighter Aaron Chalmers gets back in the Bellator cage against American Fred Freeman in a lightweight contest.
Irish-man Charlie Ward features on the card against Justin Moore, as well as a whole host of prelims including Nathan Grayson, Galore Bofando, Terry Brazier and former kickboxing world champion Denise Kielholtz.
Bellator has a lot of buzz around the organisation, and the promotion only continues to bring exciting events to the UK and Irish stage. Tune into the action live on Saturday night from 6.30pm!
