Otha Jones III Makes His UK Debut on Fri
Highly touted lightweight prospect Otha Jones III will announce himself to UK fans on Friday night at the York Hall in just his second professional fight.
Having only arrived in London on Tuesday morning, over from the US it is clear Jones’ sleeping pattern is not quite on UK time yet.
Having won a unanimous points decision on his debut in March in America, Jones will be looking to make a statement on Friday.
“I got here on Tuesday so my sleeping schedule is still an issue but I am getting through it. I am now sleeping during the day to get back on track.”
Thanks to his extensive amateur background, Jones is already highly talked about by Eddie Hearn having signed him to his DAZN streaming service. A lot of experience has been gained on his way to the professional ranks.
“I’m 19 now and I have been fighting since I was eight years old so I’ve learnt a lot.”
As with a lot of fighters outside the UK, social media is how a lot of British fans show support.
“Through my Instagram and social media, I tend to receive a lot of love from the UK boxing fans. Through messages and comments on posts.”
On the same bill is fellow lightweight prospect Charles Frankham, a fighter Jones faced as an amateur.
“He won at the world championships but he is a great fighter and I am sure as we both continue up the ranks in the future, a fight between us could be built up into a championship fight.”
Jones was emphatic in the press conference that he wants to show UK fight fans he is the real deal. As for his own prediction Friday night, having beaten a tough opponent by decision on his debut, Jones stated his intentions to get the stoppage this time around.
“I want to go out there and make a statement. This fight is not going past the fourth round.”
