World-Ranked Stars Collide in Essex on ESPN+
The highly-rated Neslan Machado will put his WBA International super-bantamweight crown on the line against world No. 6 Alexander Mejia on the #MTKFightNight in Brentwood on July 20.
Cuba’s undefeated Machado (16-0, 8 KOs) – nicknamed ‘El Pitbull’ – is currently ranked No. 13 by the WBA and will face Nicaragua’s Mejia (13-1, 6 KOs) over 10 rounds live on ESPN+ in association with Top Rank.
Miami-based Machado, who is trained by legendary compatriot Jorge Rubio, won the vacant title by outpointing Fadhili Majiha at London’s York Hall back in October and now has a chance to climb deep into the top 10.
In Mejia, Machado faces a man whose sole career defeat came at the hands of Hiroshige Osawa; a former world featherweight title challenger to Oscar Valdez.
Joining Machado vs. Mejia on a packed bill in Essex are world-ranked welterweight Michael McKinson and 2017 world title challenger Liam Walsh with a host of emerging talents ready to steal thunder on the undercard.
Stay tuned for further news of fighters, fights and build-up to one of the biggest nights of boxing in Essex for many years.
