What Next For The Losers at UFC Fight Night 150

What Next For The Losers at UFC Fight Night 150

UFC Ft. Lauderdale in the sunshine state of Florida delivered a great night of fights, well stacked with many well known names and promising newcomers. Now that the violence is over, it is time to see who the losers of the main card should fight next.

Ronaldo Souza (middleweight): The main event of the night was left nothing to be desired, with both Jacare and the Joker having their moments throughout. Jacare, a true veteran of the sport, came into this fight with a string of wins and losses, but was severely outmatched at times by a much swifter Jack Hermansson. Jacare did not employ any takedown attempts, and was always one step behind Hermansson the entire fight. Jacare is still a great fighter and a huge draw, and there are some great fights left for him if he chooses to stick around. Two greta next match ups for him would be Brad Tavares or Uriah Hall.

Dmitri Smoliakov (heavyweight): A very timid Dmitri Smoliakov was dispatched early in the first round by Greg Hardy. It is unclear whether Dmitri was just trying to be cautious and respectful of Hardy’s power, or wether he was outright scared of fighting someone like Hardy, but it was obvious he had nothing to give tonight. This is Smoliakov’s third straight loss and is now 3-0 in the UFC. If the UFC decides to keep him on the roster, he would do well to get back into the octagon soon. He should fight Junior Albini next.

Alex Oliveira (welterweight): Cowboy Oliveira is now on a two fight losing streak. Tonight, he lost a unanimous decision to Platinum Mike Perry, in a very entertaining fight that saw both men have some good moments. It is obvious that Cowboy still has a lot to give to the fight game, but gets caught easily and seems wreckless at times, which is something that has cost him fights that he could otherwise win. It is always entertaining to see Cowboy Oliveira fight, and a good next fight for him would be Michael Chiesa.

Ion Cutelaba (light heavyweight): After having some great moments tonight, Ion Cutelaba was choked out by the veteran Glover Teixeira near the end of the second round. After losing his UFC debut to Misha Cirkunov, Cutelaba came into this fight on a two fight winning streak, but the experience of Teixeira was too much for him. It would be great to see him back sooner than later. A good next match up for the Hulk would be Tyson Pedro.

John Lineker (bantamweight): The highly experienced John Lineker stepped back into the octagon after almost twelve months away. Tonight he lost a split decision against newer fighter Cory Sandhagen. The fight was a touch and go the entire 3 rounds with John Lineker making a huge statement at the end of the third, rocking Sandhagen and threatening him with a guillotine choke. Sandhagen proved to be very resilient through the entire fight. With this loss, Lineker snaps his two fight winning streak and he must now go back to the drawing board. Lineker would do well to get right back into the octagon before the end of the year. A great next match up for him would be Cody Garbrandt.

Thomas Gifford (lightweight): Gifford, who made his UFC debut at Ft. Lauderdale ended up on the wrong side of a unanimous decision against Roosevelt Roberts. Gifford came into this fight with lots of self confidence, and with continued hard work, he could easily become a household name in the future. But with a heavily stacked lightweight division, Gifford will have to continue to slowly make his way through the unranked fighters on this roster. A good next match-up for him would be John Gunther.
