By Dan McConnell

This past Tuesday Bellator held a press conference in London to announce their upcoming event in the capital of the UK, with Bellator London on the 22nd of June.

Bellator MMA CEO David Green announced the fighters on the stage who will compete on the June 22nd card. In attendance was Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley, James ‘The Strabanimal’ Gallagher and his opponent Jeremiah Labiano, Gegard Mousasi and his opponent in unbeaten Rafael Lovato Jr and finally former Kickboxing champion turned Bellator flyweight Denise Kielholtz.

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker spoke about the organisation’s commitment to UK Mixed Martial Arts and mentioned the continuation of Bellator’s European series.

Coker said:

‘We ticked a few huge boxes this year already, we have crowed a new heavyweight champion in January, we seen the continuation of our Bellator welterweight Grand Prix and in October of this year we are going officially to launch our 16-man featherweight tournament.’

Previously Bellator have created a heavyweight and welterweight tournament and we now have the Bellator featherweight tournament.

Paul Daley’s opponent Eric Silva was also confirmed at the presser for the London card.

Bellator have come to London more frequently and have had their past Bellator 200 card in London. The tv sponsorship with Viacom allows the UK audience to finally watch live action from the Bellator brand, whether its on Channel 5 or Sky Sports.

Bellator’s tournament format and coverage of UK MMA is a gap in the market that has been completely dominated by Bellator, who with David Green want to make sure that Bellator are known through the UK and also Europe. It is an excellent shop window for the organisation and especially European talent.

Next up in the European series is Bellator Birmingham on May 4th 2019. We see former Bellator lightweight champion Brent Primus take on up and coming Tim Wilde with Ryan Scope and Fabian Edwards also on the card.

Mousasi v Lovato Jr will then headline Bellator London on the 22nd of June and the awaiting Bellator Dublin card date which is suggested for September. Exciting times to be an MMA fan in the UK!
