This weekend Bellator brings their cage to the Pechanga Resort and Casino In Temecula, California for Saad Awad v Brandon Girtz in a lightweight main event.

The card features former Bellator welterweight champion Andrey Koreshkov (21-3) who faces American Mike Jasper (13-4) looking to get back in the win column.

You shouldn’t write off the Russian in the welterweight rankings just yet, who is a seasoned veteran with the promotion. Koreshkov won a gold medal at the World Combat Games in Beijing 2010 and at the World Championships in Krakow in the same year.

Koreshkov went on a 8 fight win streak in his pro career before being snapped up by Bellator in 2012. His first fight was on Bellator 63 in Louisiana where he won via TKO in the very first round.

He went on a 5 fight win streak with his new promotion and extended his unbeaten run to 13-0. Koreshkov featured in the final of the Bellator season 7 welterweight tournament final against the well-known Ben Askren.

The Russian lost but picked himself back up and defeated the likes of Douglas Lima where he won the title via unanimous decision. He also welcomed the incoming former Strikeforce and UFC fighter Benson Henderson to Bellator, defeating‘Bendo’ in the same manner.

Koreshkov and Douglas Lima fought for a second time in November 2016 in Tel Avia, his opponent getting the better in the rematch and lifting the title. The Russian climbed back up the rankings by defeating Chidi Njokuani and Vaso Bakocevic.

In his most recent bout, was faced with former for foe Lima again to finally settle the score. Lima came out victorious in the Quarter-Final of the Bellator welterweight Grand Prix in late 2019 and moved onto the next round.

Koreshkov has only been beaten by two former champions in undefeated Ben Askren and twice by Douglas Lima. Do not write the former welterweight champion off just yet!
