Amanda Nunes Destroys Cris Cyborg
Amanda Nunes upset the odds and destroyed the feared Cris Cyborg inside a minute in the co-main event at UFC 232. Two years since she took out Ronda Rousey in similar brutal and devastating fashion, Nunes did the exact same thing to Cyborg.
Nobody saw this coming, the thought process was that Nunes would use movement and hope to exploit a tiring Cyborg in the closing rounds. But Nunes had other ideas, Cyborg came out with little respect or defence and Nunes brilliantly took advantage and stopped Cyborg at the 0:51 mark.
The right hand that did so much damage to Miesha Tate and Rousey was the primary weapon yet again, and Cyborg was blown away in almost unbelievable fashion. While I never subscribed to the view that Cyborg was unbeatable, she has always been easy to hit, it was the manner of the defeat that was stunning.
Nunes has now beaten 3 legends of women’s MMA, and done it inside a round on each occasion, her legacy is now unquestioned. In claiming the UFC featherweight title to add to her bantamweight title Nunes becomes the first ever women’s double champ in UFC history.
Cyborg got the big fight she has always craved, but had no answer to the speed and power of Nunes, the loss was Cyborg’s first since her pro debut in 2005.
Cyborg’s record drops to 20-2 with 1 no contest, Nunes improves her resume to 17-4 and hopefully now gets the rewards she so deserves.
