Bellator MMA Makes it’s Debut in Hawaii This Weekend
By Dan McConnell
Bellator makes its first ever appearance to the ninth island in Hawaii this weekend for a double-header. On Friday December 14th we have a ‘Bellator Salutes’ card which pays respect to the armed forced and on Saturday night we have Bellator 213 inside the Neal S Blaisdell Centre in Honolulu, Hawaii. Both have huge head-lining title fights.
On Friday we have a lightweight title fight that should be fireworks between undefeated champion Brent Primus (8-0) and former Bellator lightweight champion Michael Chandler who has went on a two-fight win streak tear after loosing his title to Primus at Bellator NYC in 2017. Primus hasn’t fought since their last meeting where champion Chandler suffered a bizarre leg injury. This fight will kick-start the renewed bad blooded rivalry between both men.
In the co-main we see former UFC heavyweight Champion Frank Mir (18-12) return to action after his last outing in the Bellator heavyweight tournament against Bellator veteran Jay Ayala (10-7). Also we see undefeated hot featherweight prospect AJ McKee (12-0) face Daniel Crawford (10-2) in front of the Hawaiian audience for the very first time.
Our attention will turn to Saturday night for Bellator 213. Bellator flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Mc Farlane (8-0) will put her title on the line in-front of her home town crowd against former UFC strawweight title challenger Valerie Letourneau (10-6).
In the co-main we see newly signed former UFC llght-heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida (24-8) square-off against former Bellator middleweight champion Rafael Carvalho (15-2) in a battle of Brazil.
Also on Saturday we see Rizin and Bellator heavyweight Grand Prix competitor King Mo (21-7) take on former Bellator light-heavyweight champion Liam McGeary (12-3) in what should be an all out battle. The start of the Bellator welterweight Grand Prix begins with undefeated prospects Nieman Gracie challenge Ed Ruth (6-0) in the first round of the competition on an action-packed card.
Both cards will be exclusively live on newly signed DAZN and not Paramount Pictures.
