Mark Hulme Unfazed by Main Event Spot at Brave 19
At 24 years of age, Mark Hulme likes to think he’s destined for big things in his MMA career. And he will attempt to take his first steps towards greatness in his first main event spot at next saturday’s Brave 19, set for Sun City, in his home country of South Africa. He will take on experienced Adam Townsend in his Brave debut and is unfazed by the fact that he will headline an international show in his own backyard.
Hulme, of course, wants to put on a show for fans, friends, and family but doesn’t feel any added pressure of performing in the headlining spot.
“I’ve been fighting my whole life. I don’t have holidays, no weekends, only fight after fight. So when I found out I was the main event, nothing changed. Maybe I can sleep in a little bit more since I’m the last fight, but it doesn’t mean I’m special yet. I really hope to put on a show for everybody who will stay late to watch me, but I don’t think too much of it. At some point, I’m going to appreciate it more, but right now I’m just grateful that I have a fight coming up. Maybe after the fight, I’ll be like “wow, I was just in the main event for Brave”, maybe I’m just downplaying a bit, but we’ll see”, says Hulme.
Coming off three straight submission wins, the South-African prospect doesn’t rule out standing up with Townsend and guarantees he’s very comfortable with his striking skills, hoping to surprise his american counterpart in that department.
“I’m telling you, if the fight stays standing, something crazy is going to happen. I want to feel his hands a little bit, know what I’m in for, and of course I’d like to take the fight to the ground and finish him there, but I’m very comfortable with my striking right now, and I’m going to surprise a lot of people on saturday night”.
Brave 19 takes place at the Sun City Resort, next saturday, and will feature international stars clashing with some of the greatest local talents South Africa has to offer. Aside from the main event between prospect Mark Hulme and experienced Adam Townsend, Dino Bagattin takes on Englishman Carl Booth, while Cedrid Doyle meets Gareth Buirski at featherweight.
