By Calum Christie
The UFC have announced this week the destination and date of their first European show of the 2019 calendar. The world leader in MMA will be coming to the Czech Republic on Feb 23.
The UFC on ESPN +3 event will be held at the O2 arena in the nation’s capital, Prague. This will mark the first time the UFC has ever held an event in the Czech Republic. Tickets are due to go on sale on Friday Dec. 7.
UFC Senior Vice President, International and Content, David Shaw said “The Czech Republic has long been on our radar as UFC continues to expand across Europe. We are incredibly excited to finally be able to bring our first live event to our passionate Czech fans. We are looking forward to building the UFC brand and further growing the sport of MMA in the country. It’s going to be a great night!”
For the time being only one fight has been announced for the card and that is a light heavyweight bout between Magomed Ankalaev (11-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Serbian knockout specialist Darko Stošić (13-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC).
Also expected to make an appearance on the card is Příbram born Lucie Pudilová (8-3 MMA, 2-2 UFC) who is ranked #14 in the UFC woman’s bantamweight rankings. The Czech born native is coming off the back of a split decision loss in a Fight of the Night battle against Irene Aldana (9-4) at UFC 228 back in September.
